Leadership Issues manually searches for articles of interest on business leadership in over 50 leading online international newspapers covering all continents, and posts links on the website and Twitter. At the close of each month, the articles are reviewed and clustered into key workplace leadership themes including: leadership characteristics, environment/engagement, development/succession, innovation/future, technology, practice/skills and diversity.
For the first time this year, the main leadership theme in the global news was leadership characteristics (27 percent of all assessed articles was on the theme of “what makes a leader”).
Here are the top 5 results:
Leadership characteristics (27%)
Leadership development (20%)
Leadership engagement (19%)
Skills/practice of leadership (16%)
Workplace diversity (13%)
Themes not included in the leader table were to do with recruitment, innovation/future trends, technology and change (which made up the remaining percentage).
Trends were broken last month. Leadership engagement and the practice of leadership slipped from the leader positions. The subject of what makes a leader and how to develop them dominated the news and both achieved their highest percentage this year.
